Rise of the Humans……?

March 27, 2023

Nobody can doubt the impact AI and Tech are having on the Talent sector, new technologies continue to revolutionize the recruitment experience, making it faster, more efficient, more accurate. However, I also believe that it’s critical that we don’t lose sight of the importance of the human element in recruitment.

As leading businesses and thinkers in the talent acquisition space have noted, organizations must balance the benefits of AI and automation with a human-centric approach to recruitment. According to Forbes, companies need to “prioritize human connection and empathy in the recruitment process.” This means ensuring that candidates feel valued, heard, and respected throughout the hiring process, even as they interact with technology. After all, people are making life changing decisions here, trust is vital…..

At the same time, organizations must recognize that technology can only do so much. AI can’t replace human intuition, at least not yet! So while AI can help to identify top candidates and streamline the recruitment process, it’s still up to human recruiters and hiring managers to make the final decision based on their own judgment, experience, and expertise.

Moreover, it’s important to remember that outcomes from AI and automation tools are dependent on their underlying data and as per the Harvard Business Review, “algorithms are only as unbiased as the data they’re trained on.” This means that organizations must be very diligent in ensuring that their AI and automation tools are designed and trained in a way that promotes fairness and inclusivity. Organizations with investment in AI and automation in their process are 2x as likely to attract candidates but those who invest in a more human-centric approach to hiring are 5x more likely to have deep candidate pipelines according to Bersin…..

At the end of the day, recruitment is about people. It’s about finding the right fit between a candidate and an organization, and that still requires a human touch. Technology is a powerful tool, but human interaction is what makes recruitment successful. This means taking the time to build relationships with candidates, understanding their unique skills and experiences, and treating them with respect, honesty and empathy throughout the hiring process.

So while AI and automation have undoubtedly transformed the talent acquisition space and will continue to do so, it’s essential not to lose sight of the human element in recruitment. By prioritizing human connection, intuition, and empathy, we can create a more positive and inclusive recruitment experience for candidates, while still leveraging the benefits of technology to streamline the process and identify talent effectively.
