From Innovation to Talent: What ONS 2026 Taught Me About the Future of Energy

August 28, 2026

After spending the past week in Stavanger, Norway at #ONS2026, I’m leaving feeling both energised and optimistic about the future of the energy sector.

One thing became crystal clear throughout the week: while the challenges facing the industry are significant, so too is the determination to overcome them.

There is no doubt that the industry is highly volatile right now, but these challenges and changing conditions are driving innovation and forcing governments, academia and business to work in increasingly collaborative ways to achieve energy security and resilience.

The Energy industry and associated supply chain need to be as attractive as possible to the talent of future generations so the fact that a whole area of #ONS 2026 was dedicated to the talent of the future (ONS Young) is critically important.

The opportunities within the industry are broad and wide and with speakers on topics such as the impact of AI on energy, delivering energy and decarbonization in a fragmented world, breakthrough innovations in floating offshore wind and solar (among other innovations), identifying and investing in the critical skills for the energy transition and the crucial role that leadership needs to play in this, the #ONS 2026 experience for me was very enriching.

Countless innovative solutions were showcased by dozens of leading organizations in the energy supply chain, focused on driving productivity, decarbonisation, reducing emissions, and solving problems to help shape the industry for the years and decades to come.

Trying to get through the crowds of people attracted to many of the stands such as #Equinor, #Aker Solutions, #Baker Hughes and #Honeywell to name just a few was difficult, but it was really encouraging to see the huge levels of engagement and interest from the 70,000+ visitors to the conference.

Congratulations to #Lyse AG, who won the best large stand award at the conference. Their illustration of how energy is used to develop AI artwork was a masterpiece in creativity.

It is very clear to me that the work AMS does in securing exceptional talent for our Energy, Engineering and Industrials clients is critically important.
